Presents a Luncheon Program

Corporate Social Responsibility of Multinationals in Latin America.

Multinational corporations operating in Latin America are exposed from time to time to liability for tort, environmental, and human rights infractions. Without any international standards for corporate behavior, the only recourse for individuals and communities affected by these violations has been to rely upon local laws that, in many cases, are not sufficient to redress the harm. New regulations with a comprehensive and international approach toward corporate social responsibility, however, are emerging in Latin America to make multinationals accountable for their actions and are changing the landscape of a corporation’s legal obligations. Our panel will address those issues with a critical approach, present the current legal framework for corporate social responsibility of multinationals in Latin America, and will make suggestions to both multinationals and governments.

Speakers:

Henry Saint Dahl, Adjunct Secretary General, Inter-American Bar Association, Washington, D.C.
Jeff Vogt, Senior Associate for Rights and Development, Washington Office on Latin America, Washington, D.C.
